When Polish immigrant Louis Botchman founded White Plains
Coat, Apron, and Towel Supply Company in the midst of the Great Depression, $250
was a good gross for the week. Today, guided through 65 years of growth by four
generations of Botchman family members, White Plains Linen is a $35 million-a-year
business.
What that means is a lot of satisfied customers 2,500 now, up tenfold
just from 1970. And to meet their every need, we now employ a staff of more than
400, every bit as dedicated as Louis Botchman's original four-person crew. Thanks
to these customers, our mom 'n' pop company has truly lived the American Dream.
Here are a few historic highlights along the way.
1938: Louis Botchman first opens his firm; outfitting private butlers (as well as store clerks and waiters) is a major source of revenue.
1940: With the company's restaurant and hotel trade growing, Louis's son Allan talks Dad into adding pink tablecloths to their all-white line - beginning the company's proud tradition of innovation in color.
1950: Allan Botchman assumes operational management of the White Plains-based company.
1960: The company fleet grows to three trucks as restaurants and hotels continue to boom in the hot postwar economy.
1970: Company gains its 200th customer and grows to 13 employees.
1980s: Company headquarters moves to Peekskill. Allan's sons Bruce and Keith take an active hand in the business.
1990: White Plains Linen is adopted as company's trade name.
1996: LINENS á la CARTE is initiated to accommodate the more specialized needs of the larger caterer, conference center and event planner as well as top clubs and hotels.
1998: As Allan Botchman retires as president, Bruce takes
the reins and Keith is Vice President of Operations.
2000: The New York metro area's rental leader begins serving customers across the country through LINENS á la CARTE UPS delivery as well as through our web site.
2001: New LINENS á la CARTE customer showroom opens right next door to our main Peekskill facility.
2006: Linens a la Carte responds to continued annual growth by opening doors to its new, twice as large space, just down the road from the main headquarters.
